Verschiebung

(1970)

Klaus Staudt
Painted wood
45 x 45 cm

Being one of the leading figures in constructive-concrete art in Germany, Staudt explores geometrical-systematic compositions in his oeuvre. ‘Verschiebung’, translating to “displacement” in German, is an art piece representative of Staudt’s unique art technique. The artwork doesn’t only integrate with the medium, it also incorporates the light and shadow from its bulges as a principal part of the work’s presentation. The audience practically senses the flowing of the non-Euclidean geometric forms. ‘Verschiebung’ invites the viewer to witness its ever changing composition, based on the perspective the audience approaches from.
