‘Spheres’ is part of the short film series by Levi van Veluw called “The Collapse of Cohesion”. The video replicates previously-made drawings in a life-size dimension, in wood, scaled 1:1, filmed at over 1000 frames per second. All visible surfaces are covered in carbon powder, only gaining shape through the reflection of the light. The work presents a furnished archive room collapsing into chaos as the countless number of spheres fly into the setting, and an unknown cause breaks the furniture. Here, the tension between order and chaos; desire for control and natural forces of gravity is explored. Particularly in this moment the artist has no control over his work, in contrast to the drawings, where the chaos remains an artistic interpretation.
