Rain coat
(2020)
Jessi Strixner
Wood and acrylic
93 x 37 x 23 cm
Jessi Strixner is famous for her unique transformation of a single block of wood into an everyday object. Raised in a family of traditional woodcarving craftsmen, she turned the technique into a personal expressive tool. ‘Rain coat’ is both a simple commodity and a conceptual object, breaking the cultural connotations of wood as a material. Hanging on a wall like a normal piece of clothing, the work confuses the audience, and edges the line between reality and figuration. The bright colors and the whimsical, humorous tone of the sculpture speak to each viewer differently, evoking a range of emotions and associations.
