“De Schoonheid van de vloer” is an abstract work that captures Menno
Pasveer’s autobiographical narrative. Having worked as a floor cleaner
since the age of fifteen, he has developed a deep appreciation for the hard
labor workers. Often the work of floor cleaning is unseen. Using a floor
mop as a brush and painting the canvas on the floor, Pasveer illustrates
hard work as art. The use of unconventional materials echoes Pasveer’s
work as a floor cleaner while subjecting the viewer to a question: what is
the role of the creation process in the artwork’s meaning-making?
