Borrowed Light is a renowned artwork of the artist collective Troika. The work is a box structure that holds a diagonal transparent slab lined on either side with photographic film, each displaying a different color gradient. The sunset is, arguably, the most reproduced visual, and elaborately photographed natural phenomenon. The artist collective is inspired and interested in people’s endless pursuit to freeze nature by use of technology. Exposing a scroll of Duraclear film to RGB-light, Troika creates ‘Borrowed Light’, as if mimicking our continuous attempt to capture sunsets.
