Blind Light

(1987)

Pavel Grosu
Oil on canvas
97 x 72 cm

The style of Grosu’s paintings is often affiliated with the School of Cluj due to his figurative depiction and loose historical or social references. In ‘Blind Light’, the figurative depiction of a woman blocking the light with her hand is typical of the artist’s technique: the bright color palette and loose application of paint, in some way, is reminiscent of fauvism. As he does in many of his paintings; he invites the viewers to step in, interpret and imagine, and play with the meaning the work proposes, by provoking a range of emotions.
