Atatürk
(2022)
Tomáš Libertíny
Beeswax, glass, copper, aluminium
50 x 50 x 70 cm cm
Libertíny is famous for his beeswax sculptures. His fascination with the beauty and intelligence of nature led him to a long-term collaboration with nature’s hardest workers - bees. The artist uses 3D printing with a medical-grade polyamide to construct the core structure for the bees to build upon. His technique challenges the conventions of sculpture, innovating nature-made designs. Libertíny raises a question central to the art world - who is the artist? Such collaboration between man and nature illustrates the harmony the two can live in. Dedicated to the 100th year anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye in 2023, the artist created a bust of the founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The sculpture was first exhibited at the “Harvest 2022” exhibition in the Lakeside Collection compartment in Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen.
