Marcos Chaves is an internationally known artist who was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1961. After his visual art classes in the Arts School of Parque Lage, he worked at Museo de Arte Moderna; where Rubens Gerchman taught him painting. He traveled to Italy in 1984. In Italy, he was influenced by the Italian contemporary art movement Arte Povera, booming in the 1980s. In 1985, he returned to Brazil and started working together with Brazillian artist Leonilson. Chevs worked on several techniques like text, sound and video installations, photography, assemblages, and land art. He has attended numerous major art events worldwide.
