Marcos Chaves is a Brazilian artist born in Rio de Janeiro in 1961. His repertoire spans across various disciplines: photography, installation, video, text, and sound. He is best known for his appropriation of ordinary elements of everyday life to highlight the irony, eccentricity, and even absurdity that often lies in details we might be missing. Though he invites his viewers to make open-ended interpretations, he maintains a recurring tone of humor and irony. Extensively traveling around the world, he got inspired by the artists he met and the art movements he explored, such as the Italian contemporary style of Arte Povera. His works have been exhibited widely across the world, in locations such as New York, Lisbon, London, and Tokyo.
