Maarten Baas

Maarten Baas is a Dutch designer born in Arnsberg, Germany in 1978. Graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven in 2002, he is considered one of the most influential artist-designers of the early 21st century. He is best known for his theatrical and playful works that straddle boundaries between design, art, and theater. His works reflect on the common problems of contemporary society, as shown in the installation “I think, therefore I was”, and concepts of beauty in natural forms, in his renowned work “Smoke”. In 2009, he was titled Designer of the Year at Design Basel in Miami. His works have been represented in numerous key institutions from MoMa to the Rijksmuseum.
