Joep van Lieshout
Joep van Lieshout is a Dutch artist born in Ravenstein in 1963. Shortly after
graduating from the Rotterdam Art Academy, van Lieshout became
recognized in the art scene with his easy-clean designs across different
artistic practices: sculpture, installations, buildings, and furniture. In 1995,
van Lieshout founded his studio to broaden his multidisciplinary practice
across art, design, and architecture. He is famous for his provocation, be it
political or material. The artist’s oeuvre explores themes such as systems,
power, life, death, sex, and many more. He is represented worldwide by
several galleries in Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Milan, and Mexico City.
Van Lieshout’s work has been exhibited in key artistic institutions such as
Centre Pompidou Metz, MACRO in Rome, Museum of Contemporary Art in
Miami, Camden Arts Centre in London, and Pioneer Works in New York.
