Hettie Inniss

Hettie Inniss is a British Caribbean contemporary artist born in 1999 in London, United Kingdom. She graduated with an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in London in 2023 and was awarded the Sir Frank Bowling Scholarship in 2022. Inniss is known for her vibrant color palette that articulates memory and the act of remembering. Her work engages with multisensory influences and embodied experiences, encapsulating moments shaped by scent, light, sound, and memory. Adopting a Proustian approach, Inniss focuses on how unexpected sense stimulation transports us to familiar and uncanny spaces. Her practice challenges and stretches the limits of representational painting, reflecting Inniss' belief in Black Fluidity as a liberating approach to life and art. Her vibrant work is rapidly gaining interest across the United Kingdom, with the Tate Collective commissioning Inniss to create a work in 2023, and the GRIMM Gallery exhibiting both her group and solo shows.
