Charline Tyberghein

Charline Tyberghein is a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1993. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 2018. Her paintings explore the techniques of Brussels surrealism with what may seem, a witty tone. Composed of abstract geometric patterns, optical illusions, and small symbols, Tyberghein balances comedy and tragedy. The playful shapes and bright colors are juxtaposed with dark figurative symbols, such as a noose, or a weeping candle. Taking inspiration from both daily surroundings and research, Tyberghein illustrates a feeling without assigning specific meanings to her symbols. Her artistic practice brings light to the behavior of patterns during the painting process, as she refrains from producing ideas for her works digitally. Her work can be found in collections of the HKA Antwerp, Vlaamse Gemeenschap, and the Belfius collection.
