Portret van twee bomen
(2022)
Marloes Roeper
Oil on linen
225 x 300 cm
Roeper’s works are a result of her fascination with the way one creates and attaches meaning to mere brushstrokes of paint on canvas. Her work is best characterized by stripping the subject matter to the bare essence with minimal resources. ‘Portret van twee bomen’, minimalistic in its nature, is composed of large, quick, yet precise brushstrokes. Such a technique makes the viewer practically sense the momentum of the wind blowing through the tree branches. Simple at first glance, it captivates the viewer with the bravado of the lifelike depiction. This work is the winner of the Lakeside Collection Award in 2021, painted during the artist-in-residence in Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen.
