Nearly silent
(2018)
Esmee van Zeeventer
C-Print
140 x 90 cm
This work is a part of the ‘Longing for a place I’ve never been to’ series. Esmee van Zeeventer is known for her intuitive approach to photography. Driven by evocative occurrences and déjà vu-like sensations, her photographs capture everyday motives in the moment. This way, her works come out as inherently intimate, glimpses into van Zeeventer’s personal history. Bordering abstraction, ‘Nearly silent’ is reminiscent of Rothko's painting with its dual color palette. The scene of a dark evening on the beach is poetic in its simplicity. This work radiates a sense of peace and melancholy in a refined, delicate manner.
