Jan van Lokhorst
Jan van Lokhorst is a Dutch artist born in Middelharnis in 1954. He is mostly known for his unique colors and lines to create abstract subject matter. Cherishing the deep connection between visual art and music, he says that he can often hear the music ‘’within’’ the artwork while painting. His style is predominantly influenced by the abstract expressionism of Willem de Kooning and Kees van Bohemen. Yet, the lyrical nature of his pieces distinguishes his technique from others. The interplay between the abstraction of pain and color and the figuration of man and animals define van Lokhorst’s art. His works have been commissioned by numerous governmental and independent institutions both in the Netherlands and abroad.
