Iván Navarro
Iván Navarro is a Chilean artist born in Santiago in 1972 and raised during the authoritarian regime of Chile under Augusto Pinochet. He is a world-renowned artist mostly known for his unique use of light, sound, and text to create socio-politically charged sculptures and installations. Shortly after receiving his BFA from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, he moved to New York. His works deconstruct the dark past of his country and build on hope for the bright future of Chile and Latin America. The central themes of his artworks focus on the torture and isolation during the authoritarian regime of Pinochet. Navarro’s work offers enticing sensory experiences while drawing attention to global concerns. His pieces have been exhibited in numerous key institutions around the world including the Guggenheim Museum in New York, Egeran Gallery in Istanbul, and Galerie Daniel Templon in Paris.
